Warning Signs of a Stroke

Sometimes a wandering blood clot is carried by the bloodstream until it lodges in one of the arteries of the brain and chokes off the flow of the blood, called cerebral embolism. When a clot, either a thrombus or an embolus, plugs up a cerebral artery, the result is called a cerebrovascular occulsion, or a stroke.

High blood pressure could be lead toother warning signs of a stroke.

Stroke also occurs when a diseased artery in the brain bursts, flooding the surrounding tissue with blood, called a cerebral hemorrhage. Although cerebral hemorrhages don't all result from the same cause, they're more likely to occur when a person suffers from a combination of atherosclerosis (plaqued filled arteries) and high blood pressure.
